Fairbanks - Cruisetour number IB5 begins in Fairbanks. This is Alaska's second largest city and a fascinating place to visit with its long gold-rush history. For the flavor of the gold-rush, you will visit the working EI Dorado Gold Mine and view the trans-Alaska pipeline. In the afternoon, you will cruise on the sternwheeler "Riverboat Discovery" viewing an Athabascan Indian village. The Denali Princess Wilderness Lodge is located just a mile away from the entrance of the Denali National Park and is a perfect base camp for all the activities the park has to offer. Denali National Park - Every "Heart of Alaska" cruisetour features a bus tour through the vast open spaces of the Park with an experienced guide. Watch for wildlife from grizzly bears and moose to Dall sheep and a possible view of massive Mount McKinley. Experience the Wilderness - To be sure you fully experience Denali & Mt. McKinley, you will spend two nights in the Denali area. The Princess custom-built lodges are situated right in the heart of it all so you can see everything right from your doorstep. Mt. McKinley Princess Wilderness Lodge is the closest cruisetour lodge to its namesake, Mt. McKinley, and features optional tours such as sport fishing and a back country hike. Anchorage - This cosmopolitan city is located on a peninsula in Cook Inlet. Your Princess Cruisetour begins with an overnight here. In the morning, transfer to the rail depot and board the Ultra Dome railcars of the Midnight Sun Express as you head for Talkeetna. Yakutat Bay - your first full day on board will feature afternoon cruising through Yakutat Bay where you will be able to view the Hubbard Glacier - the largest valley glacier in North America. Hubbard Glacier is 6 miles wide and 500 feet high. Glacier Bay - Massive glaciers stretch from the ice-draped St. Elias and Fairweather mountain ranges to sit at the end of majestic fjords. The Muir, Johns Hopkins and Margerie Glaciers are the most "active". A Park Ranger Naturalist will narrate while in Glacier Bay. Skagway - This was the gateway to the gold fields and memories of the gold rush are everywhere. Step back in time at the historical Days of '98 Show, or at the friendly Red Onion Saloon. Juneau - This is the capital of the state of Alaska and a fascinating place to explore. Take a drive out to the Mendenhall Glacier which is inside the city limits of Juneau. Ketchikan - This is home to the world's largest totem pole collections. Visit Creek Street, once an infamous red light district that is quite respectable these days. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
